Overwatch

Overwatch is Blizzard's free-to-play hero shooter, which replaced the original paid game and now uses a five-versus-five format. Matches revolve around mixing heroes whose abilities complement one another.

Free access and purchase details checked against official sources on October 29, 2026.

Gameplay

Each team typically fields one tank, two damage heroes and two supports. Objectives include escorting payloads, holding control points and pushing a robot in Push mode. Heroes have ultimate abilities that charge through play and can swing a fight in seconds.

World and atmosphere

Set in an optimistic near future recovering from a robot uprising, Overwatch's cast spans dozens of nationalities. Maps are bright, detailed postcards from places like Toronto-inspired Colosseo-style arenas, Japan, Egypt and space stations, and seasonal events add festive variants.

Verdict

Overwatch remains one of the most approachable team shooters. Its monetisation draws criticism, but the moment-to-moment play is fast, readable and full of personality.
